Re: A couple tips on Zion (and some dissapointment..) kfpanda1, there was a rock slide on the road. I'm not sure when or how long it lasted, but that may have been one reason the east entrance was closed. They also closed it when they felt the traffic in the park was too heavy during the memorial day weekend.

1. Re: Zion lodge and driving in to park. You will receive a card for your dashboard and a code for the designated lodge parking lot gate. You can only drive your car as far as the lodge. If you want to go somewhere beyond the lodge, you can walk or use the park shuttle. The lodge is about halfway up the scenic drive.

Zion doesn't close because of flash flooding, but the Narrows might. That is only one hike within Zion, there are many other trails you can hike that don't have any issues with flooding. Also, Taylor Creek is located in the Kolob section of Zion, which is miles away from the main area of Zion National Park.Zion is 4000' above sea level, while many places in Colorado and Wyoming are 6000 to 9000 feet above sea level.
